Taxpayers and businesses warned about scam in Rhode Island
Caller claims to be from Rhode Island Division of Taxation,
seeks to access taxpayer’s home

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –The Rhode Island Tax Administrator today urged taxpayers, businesses, and tax professionals to be on guard against a scam from someone claiming to be from the Rhode Island Division of Taxation. In the scam, which the Division learned of late last week, the caller left a voicemail message for a taxpayer. In that message, the caller asserted that the Rhode Island Division of Taxation had received several complaints that the taxpayer was operating a small business out of his home. As a result, the caller claimed, the Division would be sending an agent to the taxpayer’s home to conduct an audit and full investigation.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson is asking America for prayers for the victims of the duck boat tragedy. At least 13 people are dead -- including children -- and four people are missing after a duck boat ride on a lake near Branson sunk last night. Parson told reporters this morning it's too early in the investigation to determine what caused the boat to sink. Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader said the boat went down in about 40 feet of water, then rolled into 80 feet of water before resting upright.        President Trump is sending his condolences to those impacted by the duck boat tragedy in Missouri. He tweeted this morning -- "Such a tragedy, such a great loss." He offered his deepest sympathies to families and friends of victims.        Clean up is underway this morning in Iowa after more than two dozen tornadoes tore through the state. Twenty-seven tornadoes were reported in central Iowa yesterday, demolishing houses and flipping over cars. Seventeen people in areas surrounding Des Moines have reported injuries. Governor Kim Reynolds tweeted she was praying for everyone impacted by the Tornadoes and for emergency crews responding to the victims.       Plans for another meeting between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are being discussed, as Trump wants Putin to come to Washington. The White House says the President agreed during the Helsinki summit to ongoing working-level dialogue between U.S. and Russian security council staffs.        The NFL will be putting the controversial national anthem policy on hold. The league and the player's union announced no new rules regarding the anthem will be created or enforced until both sides can come to an agreement. Earlier this year, the NFL decided to require players and team staff members to stand for the national anthem on the sidelines, or remain in the locker room until the anthem is finished. The player's union filed a grievance against the policy last week.        A new feature on Instagram will let people know when you're ignoring them. TechCrunch reported yesterday the green status dot indicates when a user is active on the app. Instagram says you'll only see status for friends who follow you or people you have talked to in Direct. The idea is to increase the time you talk to people you're talking to already
