NORTH SMITHFIELD DPW FACILITIES-
STORM CLEANUP

 

Good afternoon,

 

The tree damage from the weekend storm has obviously created a large volume of material that must be disposed of.  Our Department of Public Works is planning to help with that by making a dumpster available at the DPW facility.  The yard is open to receive that material today and tomorrow for anyone who wants to beat the snow that will be hitting us Wednesday and Thursday.  

 

Since the focus of DPW work on Wednesday must be to be ready for the snowstorm, we ask that no such material be brought there on Wednesday or Thursday.  DPW will continue to receive material on Friday and Saturday.  If additional dates seem necessary, we will make an appropriate announcement.

 

Also, though our DPW personnel will not enter any private property to remove trees, or even to collect branches, they are prepared to collect material at the curb line of your home.  You will be making it easy for us to handle your branches if you leave them in long lengths so they can be chipped.  Please contact DPW at 767-2200 extension 348 to make them aware that you have material to pick up.

 

Again, the snowstorm that is forecast for Wednesday into Thursday will force our focus on keeping roads open, so we will appreciate your understanding of the schedule detailed above.  Safety in the DPW yard is paramount.

Today, Saudi Arabian officials said they finished an investigation into the missing journalist and concluded that he died when a fight broke out between Khashoggi and people who met him in the Saudi consulate in Turkey. It said five top officials have been fired and 18 people have been arrested.       Alaska Governor Bill Walker is throwing in the towel for his re-election campaign. With just a few weeks left before the election, Walker says it's clear he can't win. Instead, he is endorsing Democrat Mark Begich over Republican Mike Dunleavy.        The President is telling immigrants who want to come to America to stay put. Today in Arizona, Trump said he's committed to deploying the military to the southern border if it comes down to it. He also slammed Democrats for allowing weak immigration laws to persist.        In a few hours, a lucky person may be a billion dollars richer. Tonight is a drawing for the Mega Millions jackpot which is worth one-billion dollars. Lottery officials announced the increase today, saying it's the largest jackpot in the game's history and second largest in U.S. lottery history.       A Russian woman is being charged with interfering in the upcoming U.S. midterm elections through social media. The Justice Department is charging Elena Khusyaynova [[ kush-yah-NOVA ]]. The indictment is not related to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's [[ MULL-ers ]] investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.        A New York City engagement photoshoot is being photobombed by Comedian Amy Schumer. The Rockville Centre native, along with her husband Chris Fischer, photobombed pictures of Jillian Georgio and her fiance Greg Hayes in Central Park this week. The happy bride-to-be didn't seem to be upset, even sharing the photos on her Instagram account.
